Chasing is the art of decorating and shaping metal. Its origin dates back millennia, when man discovered the work of metal.
Unlike the engraver, the chiseler does not remove material, but works by pushing the metal away using forged steel tools.
The chiseler works the metal using chisels, which he strikes with a hammer. The tools are created gradually, depending on the nature of the tasks. There are therefore an infinite number of different chisels, which are classified into two main categories: clair and mat.
The mat is used to create textures, thanks to its surface effect which is printed on the metal. On the contrary, the clair tool distorts but does not create a texture.
